Tackle field guide
See the chain before you change the chain
The evaluator tells you what the entered evidence supports. This guide teaches the system behind that answer: what a label can and cannot prove, which link to inspect next, and why a correction can solve one problem while creating another. Nothing on this page replaces a printed manufacturer rating.

Rod — Breaks on the cast, or lifted past ninety degrees
Reel & drag — Drag fades when it heats, or starts sticky
Main line — Nicks, age and sunlight — the only part that gets worse in a cupboard
Connection — Slips, or parts before anything else does
Leader — Abrades against whatever the fish runs into
Terminal — A snap or ring opens under a rating nobody read
Presentation — Wrong weight for the blank that has to cast it
A fish does not load only the line. The load travels through terminal hardware, leader, connection, main line, reel drag and rod before it reaches you. Presentation travels the other direction: rod and reel control line, line controls leader and terminal behavior, and the terminal end has to do the actual job. A setup can be mechanically strong and still be a poor presentation, or present beautifully and fail at one transition.
Opened from evaluator finding evidence.rod-ratings. The guide is showing rod teaching first; change the filter if the neighboring link is the better question.
Visual mechanics atlas
See where the load changes character
These plates explain the mechanical transitions the evaluator is talking about: drag, guide crossings, abrasion, casting load and the short-line landing phase. They teach the mechanism; the entered and printed figures still decide the result.
Worked setups
Real jobs, not synthetic test fixtures
These examples are intentionally specific enough to teach a system problem: wind and rock, strong-current drift, jetty landing, shallow flats casting, and very-deep vertical work. Load any one into the evaluator and change the figures to match tackle you actually own.
Decision matrices
Use these to decide what deserves measurement
These are audit maps, not automatic recommendations. They narrow the question without inventing an answer.

Official standards and manufacturer specifications carry the most authority. Expert video is used as teaching, not as a substitute for a declared rating or a physical inspection. Reviewed local resources fill topic gaps until the live catalog publishes an equal or newer record; live rows win on duplicate ids.

Rod Power vs. Action
Defines power as resistance to bending and action as where along the blank the bend happens, and ties power ratings to lure-weight and line-size ranges.
Why this matters: Lets you read a blank's printed rating as two independent axes instead of one vague stiffness number.

Field workflow
When the answer matters, follow the evidence downhill
01
State the job
Water, target, presentation and the actual load/landing problem.
02
Enter declarations
Use printed ratings, dimensions and measured figures. Leave unknowns unknown.
03
Read the weakest supported link
A mismatch is about the evidence entered, not a universal product judgment.
04
Test the correction
Ask what the change fixes and what it costs elsewhere in the chain.
05
Verify physically
Inspect knots, line condition, hardware, drag setting and current field constraints before fishing.
